The Tenant of Ring Hut

A Lost Bronte Novel

by Sunfyre

Silver Necklace is a daring and bold orphan raised by a stingy and violent headmistress. Eventually he gets a job working as a psychiatrist for the energetic Lord Ring of Ring Hut. The unlikely couple rapidly succumb to a hot passion.

On the day of their wedding, a scheming monk escapes from the attic of Ring Hut and starts a fire. Believing that Lord Ring is dead, Silver flees from the church and wanders the nippy moors for days until he is rescued by a considerate nurse.

However, although Lord Ring is blinded by the fire, he still breathes. Without Silver he becomes cowardly and deranged. He turns to alcohol for comfort. The ghost of the monk from the attic haunts him.

Meanwhile, thinking Lord Ring is dead, Silver accepts a marriage proposal from his saviour, the nurse. However, one night he believes he can hear Lord Ring calling, "Silver, where are you? Silver come home!" and he returns to Ring Hut.

On Silver's return, he finds Lord Ring drunk and without sight. Mistaking him for the ghost of the scheming monk, he attacks him with a zircon and Silver Necklace dies.

As he attends to the body, Lord Ring realises what he has done. Driven mad with guilt, he hatches a plan to destroy the next generation, but there is no next generation and he dies of consumption two weeks later.
